56% of Yesterday's VC Filings Were SPVs. The First-Check Market Has Changed.

Of the 34 venture capital funds that filed on August 10, 2026, 19 were structured as special purpose vehicles.
That is 56 percent of the day's VC filings — more SPVs than traditional funds, by a meaningful margin.
An SPV is not a fund. It is a single-deal investment vehicle: a legal entity raised for one specific company or opportunity, with LPs who chose to co-invest in that deal specifically. What AngelLinx Intelligence is tracking in 2026 is a structural shift: SPVs are no longer occasional supplemental vehicles. They are the dominant first-check format for a growing portion of active investors.
The August 10 filings illustrate the pattern. Dong Ha Nam filed three separate NDH Opportunity Fund SPVs in the same week — Series 6 at $6.4 million, Series 8 at $3.5 million, and Series 9 at $2.5 million. Brett Sagan of The Gate Strategic Opportunities filed two SPVs in parallel: Defender II at $10.9 million and GEIRA Colossal at $5.3 million. Different sectors, different timelines, same GP running multiple targeted vehicles simultaneously.
This is the SPV model operating at full speed: a GP with high-conviction views on specific deals who raises a dedicated vehicle for each one rather than asking LPs to trust a portfolio-level thesis they cannot fully evaluate in advance.
What this means for founders
The rise of SPV dominance changes two things for founders. First, it changes who might be writing your first check. An investor running a dedicated SPV program has concentrated conviction — they are identifying specific companies they believe in and raising LP capital deal by deal. Second, a GP who proposes structuring an SPV for your deal is signaling something significant: they are willing to go back to their LP base and make a specific ask on your behalf. That is the deal-specific equivalent of a term sheet from a traditional fund, and in some ways a stronger signal.
